Jira is the go-to tool for software development teams running agile workflows. This tutorial covers the basics of scrum boards and shows how to layer in time tracking with Everhour.
Projects & issue types
Jira organizes work into Projects. Each project has Issues (Epics, Stories, Tasks, Bugs, Subtasks). Issue types help teams categorize and prioritize work — customize them to match your workflow.
Sprints & backlogs
The Backlog holds all unscheduled issues. Sprint planning moves selected issues into a Sprint — a fixed-length iteration (typically 1–2 weeks). The Scrum Board shows issues moving from To Do → In Progress → Done during the sprint.
Time tracking in Jira with Everhour
Install the Everhour add-on from the Atlassian Marketplace (requires Jira admin), then invite your team to Everhour.
Timer buttons, work log, and estimate fields appear on every Jira issue. Optionally replace Jira's native time tracking UI entirely so your team has one consistent place to log time.
Reports
Filter Everhour reports by Jira project, sprint, epic, assignee, or label. Use the data for client billing, sprint retrospectives, or budget health checks.
